Hardwood floor donations at half-way mark! Don’t miss your chance to make a donation, says fundraising team
VANKLEEK HILL – About one-half of the $35,000 needed for the hardwood floor in the new Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI). School alumni Paul Emile Duval and André Martel have been soliciting donations to pay for the hardwood floor, which was not included in the budget for construction of the new school. Duval acknowledges that it is hard for people to understand why the hardwood floor option is not part of the school budget, but adds, “This will be a top-of-the-line gym floor and it is an extra that will be appreciated by everyone who uses the gym, especially, of course, those who play badminton, basketball, volleyball and other sports.” The badminton group which uses the existing school gym twice weekly has already donated $1,000, Duval pointed out. “We were hoping to be able to give the board the money at the VCI Celebration,” Duval said. Right now, it is mostly a matter of having the time to contact everyone who might like to contribute, Duval explained. The hardwood floor is in the works already and will be in place when the new school opens in February of 2011. The fundraising team for the hardwood floor began by aiming to obtain $350 donations from 100 people. The names of donors will be on a plaque to be made and installed at the school by Martel & Sons. All donors will receive charitable donation receipts. The $350-or-more donations are welcome from individuals and businesses, but Duval is inviting alumni basketball teams or, for instance, the alumni of a particular year, to pool their funds and make a donation so that their team or graduating class will be listed on the plaque. “If there are 50 grads from one year and they each donate $10, that’s $500 and their graduating class will be listed on the plaque,” Duval said.
